Daytona1 Team Driver Places 2nd In SCCA National Runoff Race
The road course at Daytona International Speedway is not for the faint at heart with 12 turns and 3.56 miles of hard driving. Bobby Kennedy of Ormond Beach was driving the #118 Daytona1 Performance Lubricants Ford Mustang Friday in the SCCA National Championships.
Kennedy started outside second row as the green flag dropped sending the entire field off and running for the 2015 National title. Kennedy would record the highest speed of the field with a 179.211 MPH lap at 1:54.371. When the checkered flag dropped marking the finish, Bobby Kennedy would end up in 2nd place in dramatic fashion. Kennedy was running third coming out of NASCAR turn 2 and was now chasing down Mark Boden in his Porsche on the back stretch. Coming into the 'bus stop chicane', Kennedy drove in as hard as he could hitting his brakes at the last possible moment, making a high speed pass on Boden. The strong horsepower from the Koury Racing Engine power-plant and Kennedy's lead foot came into play coming out of the bus stop and the Porsche didn't stand a chance on catching him in the final sprint to the finish line.
Kennedy explains it like this, “Mark Boden raced me so cleanly, I never had to worry about running closely with him. I was just so happy to get by him going into the bus stop, it wasn't anything he did, I just went in there as deep as I could not knowing what was going to happen. I was just fortunate to finish where I did.”
Congratulations Daytona1 Driver Bobby Kennedy on a great race and 2nd place in a National Championship Race!
On a side note, Mark 'Squeek' Kennedy (Bobby's dad) is also an accomplished racer in his own right. We would also like to recognize Woody Wood of Bemco Fab and his entire crew for building and fielding such a great race car.
